Behind the Art

Maria Matos is an illustrator and photographer who lives and works in Lisbon. Her influences refer to the golden age of illustration that date from the beginning of the 20th century.

The illustrations establish a bridge between this heritage and a more delicate, feminine and contemporary personal approach. Recurring themes are the representation of female figures in a fantastic universe, strongly inspired bytraditional fairy tales, framed with fauna, flora with complex and detailed patterns.
