Behind the Art

Based in the UK, Ibi Meier-Oruitemeka, known as Studio IMO is a self-taught artist who first discovered her passion for painting in May 2024. Drawn immediately to acrylics, she found in them a soulful medium for expressive, intuitive work rooted in her British Nigerian identity.

IMO’s art celebrates Black figures, often rendered in tactile, intimate poses, a hand on a shoulder, elbows on a table, a gesture mid-caress. Dominating the pictorial frame, her bold, graphic forms transform the canvas into a space of affirmation. Rather than shrinking or fading into the background, her subjects demand presence, standing unapologetically in all their glory, embodying themes of human connection and solitude.
